In the summer of 2009, my dear friend died of a massive heart attack. He was an avid musician and I’d been recording his music for over 2 years. By the time he passed away, I was left with hundreds of hours of recordings that nobody else had heard. I decided to share the best of them through an album I called Song Boss, a term coined by his fellow musicians.
The liner notes are comprised of photos and stories provided by his closest friends. During the hours of sorting through photos, reading stories, meticulously carving typography out of wood blocks, and listening to his music, I felt close to my friend again. It was a great comfort. I gave out copies to his loved ones in hopes of them receiving that same comfort.
